In a great finish the Tampico Stogies came back in the top of the ninth and
held on to win over the Tombstone Huckleberries by a score of 5 to 3 at the
ballpark.

Tampico came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
when they scored 4 runs on 4 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by
Hideki Matsui who disappointed the partisan crowd when he quieted the crowd
by clouting a Grand Slam (his 12th of the season). Tampico had 14 hits for
the afternoon while Tombstone had 6.

Ron Mahay(2-1) allowed no runs in 1 and 1/3 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jason Frasor got the save, his 5th. Armando Benitez(1-2) was hit
with the loss in relief. He surrendered 3 runs in 1/3 of an inning and saw
his ERA increase from 2.57 to 3.80.

Doug Salzwedel was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not
in the mood for questions, but I'm sure Mike Aldrich will be glad to talk
about the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
